Also known as Silver Cloud, Silver Cloud 1 and SC1. This is a 4-door full-size luxury sedan, produced from 1955 to 1959. It was somewhat old-fashioned even for the mid-1950s, when many manufacturers were turning to monocoque construction. But Rolls-Royce went with what it knew best and retained a separate chassis. This meant that the standard pressed steel body could be used or a number of coachbuilt creations bolted on instead. However, the sweeping curves of the Silver Cloud proved timeless and continue to be referenced to this day. The model is really correctly referred to as the Silver Cloud, but with the advent of the Silver Cloud II and Silver Cloud III it has become common to refer to it as the Silver Cloud I to avoid confusion which we have adhered to across website.
