Original Equipment vs Aftermarket: Dispelling the Myth
IntroCar continues to bring to market parts for Rolls-Royce and Bentley motorcars which have otherwise been discontinued by the factory. Here we take an example product - a Lucas contact set - and examine the changes made to a design which are an improvement upon the Original specification.. aftermarket is not always inferior!
In this instance this original product is actually still available (you can find both Original and Aftermarket stocked at IntroCar under part number CD3047), but we are happier selling the remanufactured version which is fit for purpose. Where we are concerned, aftermarket should meet or exceed the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) specifications.
That is why we offer a 3 year warranty on all our remanufactured products (find them listed under the 'Prestige Parts®' brand on our website).
Matt tells us more in the video about why.
What is the Myth Relating to Original Equipment versus Aftermarket Products?
In the Rolls-Royce and Bentley industry, and perhaps wider spread, is the myth that aftermarket is not quite to the superior standard of Original Equipment, and one that IntroCar is very much trying to dispel.
Example CD3047: Ignition Contact Set fitted to Lucas Distributor

Shown here are both the Original Equipment product currently available from Bentley, along with the version manufactured by IntroCar - the aftermarket version available as part of the Prestige Parts® range.
There are a number of differences which were improved upon.
1) Spring Arm
The Spring Arm connects the Ignitio Point. The curvature shown is a much better sweep on the aftermarket Prestige Parts version than the Original. The Original Equipment version is very straight.
2) Material
This is the piece that is acted on by the cam of the distributor shaft. That is Tufnell material in the Prestige Parts® version which is the original material used when the car was first brought to market, and not what is currently supplied as peart of rhe current Original Equipment product suppied by Bentley under the current Lucas brand.
3) Isolating Washers
These isolate the electricity onto the point. In the Pretige Parts® version the layout is correct as opposed to the layout on the OE version supplied by manufacturer.
Why set out to improve upon the OEM specifications?
This original Lucas part is an OEM part at an OEM price but not necessarily OEM quality and does not perform as well for purpose.
This is just one example of a Prestige Parts® product that actually exceeds the specifications of the original. Parts like this are the very reason IntroCar began to remanufacture Rolls-Royce and Bentley products for the Prestige Parts® range, and why they confidently offer a 3 year warranty on them. The Prestige Parts® range can be found at IntroCar.com alongside all other available Original Equipment, Reconditioned Exchange and Recycled Rolls-Royce and Bentley parts.
