Looking Back on 2024: A Year of Classic Obsession
As we welcome 2025, it's the perfect time to reflect on what has been a truly remarkable year for Classic Obsession. From major restorations to exhilarating road trips, incredible finds, and inspiring conversations with fellow enthusiasts, 2024 has been nothing short of spectacular.
The Year Kicked Off With a Rolls-Royce Revival
The year began with the first start of the 1983 Rolls-Royce Corniche Convertible, a moment that set the tone for what was to come. After being off the road for 14 years, the challenge of bringing this classic back to life was an ambitious one—but as we saw, patience and precision paid off. The restoration process involved sourcing parts, refreshing the interior, and ensuring that the car's performance matched its timeless elegance.
One of the biggest wins of the year was tracking down a full interior for the Corniche, already beautifully restored. A lucky break, detective work, or just sheer persistence? Either way, it was a game-changer for this project.
Trips, Shows & Meeting Fellow Enthusiasts
The journey wasn’t just about garage work—it also took us to some iconic classic car events, where we showcased some of the builds, met incredible people, and saw some of the world’s most stunning vintage vehicles.
One of the biggest highlights was taking the Porsche 928 GT to the NEC Classic Motor Show in Birmingham. Seeing this incredible machine take center stage was an unforgettable moment. The show was also a great opportunity to catch up with friends, sponsors like Footman James, and classic car fans from all walks of life.
A standout moment was meeting Emily Grace, a passionate young enthusiast working to bring more young people into the world of classic cars. As an ambassador for Starter Motor, she’s playing a crucial role in making sure the next generation keeps these automotive legends alive.
Getting Down & Dirty: The Big Restorations
2024 saw some of the biggest restoration challenges yet, including the complete brake system rebuild on the Corniche. From accumulators and flexi hoses to calipers and brake pads, every part had to be meticulously cleaned, replaced, or restored. And let’s not forget the sludge-filled reservoir, proving that a proper restoration means going all the way—not just swapping out easy-to-reach parts.
Alongside the Rolls-Royce projects, work on the Mercedes 190SL and Jaguar XK8 in California brought more challenges. The Mercedes underwent an extensive paint job, a true test of skill in a tiny, dusty garage. But the result? A showroom-quality finish that made every minute of the process worth it.
Unforgettable Cars & Stories
Classic cars aren’t just about engines and bodywork—they’re about the stories and people behind them. One of the most touching moments of the year was reuniting Tom, the previous owner of the Porsche 928 GT, with his beloved car. Seeing his reaction and hearing the stories behind his ownership was a testament to why we do what we do.
The same goes for the stunning Lotus Elite restoration. Restoring this classic wasn’t just about mechanical work—it was about preserving history. And what better way to celebrate its completion than taking it back to its roots at the Lotus Factory for a special 50th-anniversary event?
What’s Next for 2025?
With so many projects now on the road and running, the focus for 2025 will be new restorations, exciting road trips, and more incredible events. The Porsche 928 will finally get the timing belt replacement it deserves, and the Lotus Elite will see more road time. Plus, there’s still unfinished business with the Corniche Convertible’s soft top and final paintwork.
Most importantly, the mission remains the same: to share knowledge, inspire classic car lovers, and bring these timeless machines back to life.
A massive thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey—your comments, shares, and messages mean the world. If you haven't already, make sure to subscribe to Classic Obsession to stay up to date on what’s in store for 2025!
